What is all the hype about GYMKHANA?

gymkhana  - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ jim- kah-nuh]
1. 1 a field day held for equestrians, consisting of exhibitions of horsemanship and much pageantry.
2. any of various other sporting events, as a gymnastics exhibition or surfing contest.
Derived from the Hindi word, this Indian term is used to describe a sport that test the skills of the competitors in various meets and obsticals.
The next big thing in the auto industry is called GYMKHANA. It had started in the 60’s and continued into the 80's but was really only popular in Japan and Europe. Since in the us Japanese cars have become significantly more popular this sport has started and is catching on quickly here. Gymkhana is about controlling your vehicle through a course normally in an open parking lot or field. There are various cones, obstacles, 360 and 180 turns that must be performed all with style, technique, and speed to get the best time. This is something that I would love to experience but it is a very expensive sport. The requirements to Gymkhana is normally a 4wd vehicle with about 500 hp, hydraulic brake lever, very expensive tires, and a very good driver. One of the best Gymkhana drivers is Ken Block, and below I will include his very famous video. Ken creates the crazies tracks which are said to be Gymkhana on steroids, and he did all this to improve his rally driving skills. Check out the video and link below.
